Guided by a clear national vision and a steadfast commitment to innovation, the UAE is charting a course toward AI independence — positioning itself not merely as a consumer, but as a global leader and exporter of AI technology.
Our journey began with the launch of the National AI Strategy 2031 — one of the earliest and most ambitious plans worldwide — setting the foundation for a future where AI enhances every facet of life in our country. This strategic roadmap integrates AI across key sectors such as energy, healthcare, education, transport, and security, helping us build a knowledge-based economy that is both resilient and sustainable.
We took a historic step by appointing the world’s first Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, whose leadership symbolizes our nation’s unwavering dedication to harnessing the full potential of AI.
Central to this vision are pioneering institutions like the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) and the Technology Innovation Institute (TII). These centers are not only advancing cutting-edge AI research but are also nurturing the next generation of Emirati talent. I am particularly proud of homegrown achievements such as the Falcon LLM and the Arabic language model Jais, which exemplify our commitment to building AI solutions rooted in our culture and linguistic heritage.
Our investments in AI extend beyond research. They are transforming lives — from revolutionizing healthcare through early diagnostics and telemedicine, to reshaping education with AI-enabled personalized learning, to making our energy sector more efficient and sustainable with AI-driven insights.
Yet, the path to AI sovereignty is not without challenges. Attracting world-class talent, reducing reliance on imported technology, and developing high-quality, culturally relevant data are complex tasks that require concerted effort and collaboration. The UAE is addressing these through scholarships, international partnerships, sovereign data infrastructure, and evolving policy frameworks that emphasize ethical and responsible AI use.
What distinguishes the UAE is our vision to be a creator of technology, not just a user. Through initiatives like Projects of the 50 and We the UAE 2031, we are aligning AI development with broader economic diversification and sustainable growth goals, ensuring technology serves the aspirations of all Emiratis.
The UAE’s AI journey represents more than a national ambition — it is a beacon of possibility for the region and the world. By investing in people, innovation, and collaboration, we are building a future where AI empowers our society while honoring our values and culture.
