RSS): The government has initiated a scheme to immediately rescue the pregnant women and women in labour in need of emergency health service but located in the remote areas of the country. They will be airlifted to the designated health facility.
In view of the pregnant women losing lives during labor owing to poor family background, the government has planned to immediately airlift them by helicopter to save the lives of both the mother and the newborns. It is expected to reduce child maternal mortality rate too.
In order to implement the scheme, the government has passed a procedure on helicopter rescue of pregnant women from remote area 2075. To be implemented under the President Women Upliftment Programme, the women in need would be taken to the hospital fixed by the government to ensure quality hearth service, said the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen.
With the enforcement of the procedure, the rescue programme would be implemented in 34 districts as Darchula, Baitadi, Bajhang, Doti, Achham, Jajarkot, Dailekh, Mugu, Kalikot, Jumla, Humla, Dolpa, Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Bhojpur, Panchthar, Tehrathum, Khotang, Okhaldhunga, Solukhumbu, Dolakha, Rasuwa, Manang, Mustang, Myagdi, Rolpa, Rukum East, Rukum West and Salyan.
A nine-member coordination committee has been formed under the leadership of the Chief of the Women’s Empowerment Division of the Ministry.
Similarly, at the local levels, local level recommendation committee would be formed under the coordination of chiefs of the concerned rural municipality and the municipality.
A total of 13 hospitals from seven provinces have been selected for the free health service to the rescued women.
